Description

A Time Projection Chamber is being investigated as central tracker for the detector at the ILC. To provide a comparison and explore the potential improvements using Micro-Pattern Gas Detectors, Gas Electron Multipliers (GEM) and Micromegas (MM), compared with Multi-Wire Proportional Chambers, which have used up to now in TPCs, several small prototype chambers (diameter ca. 30cm) have been built and tested. The next step in this development will be the construction and test of a Large Prototype (diameter ca. 90 cm) with GEM and MM endplates at the EUDET facility. A brief overview of the small-prototype work and the planning for the Large Prototype will be given.
